Poets asked for room to spread out. A phone is perfect for reading on the go, but writing, editing and browsing a full feed are better on a big screen with a real keyboard. This release makes Stanza feel at home on your desktop.
Install Stanza from your browser
You don't need to download anything from an app store to give Stanza a place on your computer. In browsers that support installing web apps, look for Install app. Stanza is added to your computer like any other program: it opens in its own window, gets its own icon, and stays out of your browser tabs.
The installed app comes with shortcuts. Right-click its icon to jump straight to New Journal Entry, Write a Poem, Explore Feed or the Reading Space.
It works when your connection doesn't, too. If the connection drops, Stanza shows an offline page with a shortcut into the Writing Space, so you can keep writing, and reactions and follows you make offline are sent once you're back.
A layout built for big screens
The Stanza app has learned to use the extra space on large screens. On a wide display:
- A sidebar replaces the bottom bar. Everything is one click away: the Stage, Discover, Community, Lists, Circles, notifications, settings and more. Collapse it when you want more room, and it remembers your choice.
- The Stage becomes a grid. Instead of one poem at a time, your feed spreads into two, three or four columns depending on the width of your screen.
- Pages use the width. Your profile, the composer and live channel pages split into two columns. Settings, search and community pages lay out in grids.
- Reading stays comfortable. Poems, sign-in forms and notifications are held to a readable width, so lines never stretch from one edge of a monitor to the other.
- Forms open as dialogs. Creating something opens a centred window instead of a sheet sliding up from the bottom of the screen.
A roomier composer
Writing and editing get the biggest upgrade. On a large screen, the composer, the spoken word composer and the editor drop their tabs. Your poem sits in the main area, with a sidebar beside it holding Details, Appearance and Settings, so you can adjust a background or a content setting without losing sight of your words. Along the bottom, Jump to chips take you straight to any section, next to your Draft and Publish buttons.
Organizations on the big screen
If you post as an organization, your organization profile gets its own sidebar, with the tools your team uses every day.
Getting started
1. Open Stanza in your browser on your computer.
2. Choose Install app, or your browser's install option.
3. Open Stanza from your desktop and make yourself at home.
Big screen, small screen, or no connection at all, your poems are where you need them.
